Incident Report: LAN Party Connectivity Issues

Problem Identification Throughout the event, I observed a substantial performance degradation across the primary gaming VLAN. Upon examining the core switch logs, I instantly pinpointed a broadcast storm triggering from a loop in one of the user rows. No additional details were required from the user end; the gateway’s CPU spikes and packet loss clearly indicated the root of the problem.

Technical Justification I opted to activate Storm Control and BPDU Guard on all access ports rather than simply restarting the hardware. I selected this approach because it is a far more resilient strategy for managing high-density environments like a LAN Party. It ensures that a single faulty connection cannot compromise the entire network, which is crucial for scalability and maintaining low latency for the tournament. adhering to industry best practices to prevent future technical debt in these situations.

Resolution As soon as the protocols were applied, the jitter vanished, and the network stability was restored. I executed a quick ping test to the local servers to verify that operations had returned to normal before marking the ticket as resolved.
